Risky Behaviors After Trauma

The goal of this program is to help our adult community understand that drug use, alcohol abuse, risky sexual behaviors and being careless with safety can all be aftermaths of trauma.   

Andi Houdek, MA, LMFT will discuss normal reactions to trauma, emotional responses to trauma, trauma cycle of self-harm, types of risky behavior, factors intrinsic to trauma responses, and self-care after trauma. 

Meet the Presenter: 

Andi is an Air Force veteran who has lived around the world, raising 3 daughters in South Korea, Japan, and Germany (among other places). She and her family settled in Colorado in 2004 and have no plans of ever leaving. She went back to school in 2013 and earned her graduate degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Regis University and currently has a private practice in Parker.  Along with working with families and couples, she is trained to work with first responders, military, and trauma survivors. Her approaches include Narrative Therapy, Sandtray, EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) and Trauma Dynamics (a somatic intervention). She has worked with WINGS (Adult Survivors of Childhood Sexual Trauma), and at Denver Springs Behavioral Hospital as their outpatient family therapist working closely with high-risk adolescents and their families. She has also worked with the country of Ukraine supervising and training their new psychologists/therapists. She is always filled with gratitude for the people placed in her life.
